Pick Me Up Off the Floor grew out of the sessions around the standalone singles Norah Jones had been releasing in the preceding years. She picked the songs that held up, finished them, and released them on 12 June 2020 through Blue Note Records. Piano, organ, and a spare rhythm section carry lyrics about loss and unease, in pieces such as Flame Twin, Heartbroken, Day After, and the closing Heaven Above. The whole thing sounds looser and rougher than her earlier studio albums, more a run of recordings from one period than a tightly directed project.
