On Milk Cow Blues Willie Nelson went looking for the blues, with guests who know the genre from the inside. B.B. King plays on The Thrill Is Gone and Night Life, Dr. John on Black Night and Fool's Paradise, Susan Tedeschi on Kansas City and a blues reading of Crazy, and Jonny Lang, Keb' Mo', Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and singer Francine Reed all appear. Originally released in September 2000 on Island Records, the album sets originals such as Night Life and Funny How Time Slips Away against blues and jump blues standards, and shows how close Nelson's phrasing always was to that idiom. This edition is a 2-LP.
