For Teatro, Willie Nelson set up in a disused cinema in Oxnard, California, where Daniel Lanois recorded the album almost live in roughly four days. The result is a sound that stands apart in Nelson's catalogue: two drum kits at once, Spanish-tinged guitar figures, plenty of space and reverb, with his sister Bobbie Nelson on piano and Emmylou Harris singing on eleven of the fourteen tracks. Nelson drew mainly on his own 1960s material, including I Never Cared For You, Darkness on the Face of the Earth, and Home Motel, alongside Lanois's own The Maker. The album originally appeared in September 1998 on Island Records; Wim Wenders filmed the sessions. This edition is a 180g LP, pressed for the 25th anniversary.
