Saxon's self-titled debut originally appeared in 1979 and catches the Barnsley band still close to its blues-rock roots, but already with the speed and the motorcycle imagery that became its trademark. 'Backs to the Wall', 'Big Teaser' and 'Stallions of the Highway' push hard, while the opening pair 'Rainbow Theme' / 'Frozen Rainbow' shows where the group came from. Sales were modest, but it arrived exactly as the wave of British metal bands broke through that Saxon would come to lead.
