Saxon

Saxon formed in 1976 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and with Wheels of Steel and Strong Arm of the Law (both 1980) became one of the leading names of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Songs such as '747 (Strangers in the Night)', 'Princess of the Night', and 'Denim and Leather', the last a tribute to the audience itself, became fixtures in a catalogue that runs to more than twenty studio albums. After the arena years of Power & the Glory and Rock the Nations, the band around singer Biff Byford kept going, from Solid Ball of Rock (1991) and Unleash the Beast (1997) to Thunderbolt (2018) and Hell, Fire and Damnation (2024). Metallica and Megadeth have both named Saxon as an influence.
