Alice Cooper grew up in Detroit and recorded Detroit Stories in the city itself, with producer Bob Ezrin and musicians from the local scene. The album honours the city's rock history with original songs such as Social Debris, written and played with original band members Michael Bruce, Dennis Dunaway and Neal Smith, and with covers: Rock 'n' Roll by The Velvet Underground, Sister Anne by MC5 and East Side Story by Bob Seger. It also holds songs such as Go Man Go, Our Love Will Change the World and Detroit City 2021. The album first came out in 2021 and reached number one on the German album chart.
