Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One, from 1970, is the eighth Kinks studio album and at the same time a settling of accounts with the music business: publishers, accountants, managers, the trade press and life on the road. Ray Davies wrote it after years of contract trouble and the American performance ban, and wrapped that anger in jokes. Lola became a worldwide hit and put the band back on the charts, Apeman followed as the second single, and Strangers is one of Dave Davies' best known contributions. Get Back in Line, about waiting at the union hall for permission to work, is the bleakest song on the album. This edition is an anniversary box set with 3 CDs and two 7-inch singles.
