In October 1985 Miles Davis started work on Rubberband at Ameraycan Studios in Los Angeles, his first project after leaving Columbia for Warner Bros. following thirty years with the label. With producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles he deliberately went looking for funk and soul, with plans for guest vocalists including Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan. The album was shelved, Davis recorded Tutu instead and the tapes sat untouched for more than thirty years. His nephew, drummer Vince Wilburn Jr., finished the material with Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway and Medina Johnson on the vocals, and Rhino released it in 2019. This edition is a 2-LP.
