Queen II was originally released in 1974 as Queen's second studio album, recorded at Trident Studios with producer Roy Thomas Baker and the band. Its two sides were named Side White, dominated by Brian May's compositions, and Side Black, written entirely by Freddie Mercury. The sound is built on densely layered guitars and multi-part harmony vocals, with pieces such as 'The March of the Black Queen' and 'White Queen (As It Began)'. 'Seven Seas of Rhye' became the band's first hit single in the United Kingdom. Mick Rock's cover photograph, showing the four members in a diamond formation, was later recreated in the video for Bohemian Rhapsody.
