My Favorite Things was the first album on which John Coltrane played soprano saxophone. He recorded it in October 1960 with McCoy Tyner, Steve Davis, and Elvin Jones, stretching the waltz from the musical The Sound of Music into a modal improvisation of nearly fourteen minutes. The album also holds readings of 'Summertime', 'But Not For Me', and Cole Porter's 'Everytime We Say Goodbye'. It originally appeared in 1961 on Atlantic Records; an edited version of the title track became a radio hit that same year, and in 1998 the album entered the Grammy Hall of Fame.

This edition is a 2-LP, an anniversary set placing the mono and the stereo mix side by side.
